News > Endurance Challenge for NCW

Sales Director of Kidderminster firm Anderman Industrial Ceramics, Gary Hateley, is due to take on a phenomenal challenge over the summer to raise money for NCW.

On Sunday 20th August, Gary will attempt to travel the equivalent of 110km at his gym in 10 hour continuous event utilising 4 items of cardio-vascular equipment including 20km on a treadmill, 10km on an elliptical trainer, 20km on a rowing machine and 60km on a bike.

The money raised will go towards purchasing a piece of state-of-the-art gym equipment for a brand new multi-gym at the College. The former stables building on the Campus has been undergoing a transformation to become a 21st Century fitness centre for the students, staff and local community to benefit from.

Gary said “I’m really looking forward to it, my character is one that constantly seeks a new challenge to test and push myself, but doing it to raise much needed funds for the College will provide the motivation to complete the daunting task. NCW is such a worthy local cause, and I can’t think of anything more fitting”. Gary is preparing for the challenge by following a strict endurance training regime which starts every day at 5.30am before heading to work. “I’m focussing on the rowing and cycling at the moment, because they’re the disciplines that I’ve never really worked on before. The challenge is made even more difficult with the interruption in the training due to business needs meaning I have to travel globally 3 weeks out of the 4 prior to the event, but I’ll do all I can to prepare accordingly.”

Gary visited the College recently and met with some students to chat about the challenge. NCW student Rufus was particularly impressed. When he heard about the challenge his words were “Good luck with that mate!”
