Overview

The courses in Health and Social Care offer students the opportunity to understand why quality care is important, the importance of clear communication and how health and social care is planned to meet the needs of individuals and a community. The courses provide good preparation for life and for working within the sector.

Examples of Adaptions for Visually Impaired Students

  • Students can undertake relevant work experience when they do their work experience
  • They are taught to do efficient, academic research on the internet
  • Time is allowed for students to read larger amounts of text whether it is large print, Braille or electronic
  • Learning is active where lessons are carefully planned to encourage higher order thinking skills, working as a team and working independently
  • Each lesson is differentiated so individual students’ needs are considered for both learning and accessibility of resources
  • Different learning styles are accommodated and thoughtfully planned for - including visual learning, auditory and kinaesthetic
  • Literacy and numeracy skills are embedded and the correct use of English commented on when students are given feedback
  • Accessible tools are provided to students so they can plan, implement and reflect on their research
