There are two qualified and experienced nurses at NCW who look after students' medical needs in the college medical centre.

The NCW Nurses offer a dedicated health and well-being provision which provides daily support and advice on the medical, personal and emotional well-being needs of NCW Students.

The surgery is open from Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm and our nurses are available by telephone to parents as well as running an open door policy for students to ask any questions or raise health concerns. Emails from parents are answered as soon as possible and certainly within 24 hours as a matter of course.

When a student is unwell and unable to attend classes, surgery offers a quiet and comfortable place to rest and recover with care and reassurance on hand. The Surgery has a quiet single-bedded isolation room and a double-bedded room where students can spend time if they are feeling unwell.

Mental wellbeing

Students have the opportunity to talk to our experienced counsellor at any time, should they need it. We also take a proactive approach to healthy eating and the benefits of exercise for all students.

Nurse Julie is a RMN trained nurse and acts as liaison between all services - referring students if necessary to outside agencies, GP services and counsellors.

Our nursing staff support and advise Houseparents, and link to students’ GPs to provide a holistic approach to each student’s health care. They arrange off-site medical appointments and have close links with other specialist healthcare professionals, such as diabetic specialist nurses.

The nurses also provide training for NCW teaching staff to ensure a high and consistent standard of knowledge across the Campus.
